Information: I really hope this thing with Ross is over. According to Paul, he does have access privileges to most of the technology here. Hacking it was just him showing off what his race can do. Paul also said he’d e-mail me Ross’s race profile, unless Al finds it first. But that’s for a later date.

The one thing that is clearly obvious about this race is how cute they are behind that cybernetic mask they have to wear due to the pressure difference between their planet and everyone else’s planet. This has been the case since they first came out of the oceans.

Their history is rather humorous. According to their wildlife studies, the vast majority of the animals on their planet won’t kill anything that they recognize as cute. It is hypothesized that cute translates into harmless to most of the creatures that roam the woods, jungles, hills, and plains of the planet. This put the Phayno at a great advantage when it gained sentient status. Because the majority of the animals won’t attack them, they were very aggressive hunters and amassed the most amount of food in their region. They had so much excess food that other tribes would often barter with them. This is where they developed their economic culture.

However, not everyone was skilled in their deal-or-no-deal manner of trading. Piracy became more attractive, possibly as an extension of their aggressive hunting nature. While a small pocket of the race practiced honest trade, the bulk of the culture became pirates. This resulted in a lot of ground and sea battles of mythic proportions and various pirate cities to be established. Mirroring their primitive tribal counterparts, the most successful of these pirate towns attracted others for trade and adventure.

It’s unclear how they became a space race, but when they realized that other worlds out there could be plundered for pleasure and fun, they jumped at the chance. It is here where they found their race’s main fatal flaw. The atmospheric pressure of other planets caused their large eyes to explode in a very horrible death. Initially, no reports of this event were brought back to their home world. That’s kind of obvious since they all died when they left the ship to plunder a planet. They discovered this when a stowaway witnessed this through the ships porthole.

When they learned of this, they made several attempts at producing protective head and eye gear to maintain a pressurized condition so their eyes wouldn’t explode in a bloody display. Thousands more died in trial-and-error before they found a design that actually worked for them.

As space pirates, they only plunder one type of commodity: natural resources. This ranges from things like plants and animals to bio-fuel used by the planet’s native race. It’s unclear as to why they prefer these over cash, but judging from the information in the file presented, it looks like capital was never an issue for them. If I had to guess, I’d say the concept of money doesn’t exist on their planet.
