Diet: Carnivore
Danger Level: 4
Social Ability: 8
Observation: A large crustacean that hunts in the open oceans of its home planet but lives on the beaches. It earned its name due to the shape the shell makes around its body. The exposed body have a thin exoskeleton that help protect the creature, though not as effectively as the shell can.
Its diet is mostly large fish that will swim into its territory. Males, however, have been known to consume other males if they wander to far into another’s territory. It never eats its meals on land.
Territories are not just a section of a beach, but also include a hunting ground that can extend up to five miles from shore. These hunting grounds all have one thing in common, they are close to a coral reef. The reason they are close to a reef is for mating purposes. Females will lay unfertilized eggs in holes in the reef. Males ready to mate will look for these holes during their hunts and then deposit their sperm. This has to be carefully timed, as eggs left too long unfertilized will wither and become food for the reef and micro-organisms swimming in the water.
Offspring start out as any other crustacean on our planet, and much like their Earth counterparts, they often fall victim to environmental conditions or become meals for fish and other marine life.
As a final note, adults are about the size of a small human child.
