Observation: An extremely tall race of aliens with a very fragile skeletal structure. To help offset this design flaw, it has evolved a large fleshy bulb on the top of its head where it produces and stores lighter-than-air gases to life its body upright. Without this balloon, its long legs would snap under the mass of the torso in any kind of gravitational field.
In order to produce this lighter-than-air gas, their diet is strictly built around fibers and fruit. They have a specialized bacteria that takes key elements in those food item and produce a hydrogen-helium mixture that is channeled back up the esophagus through a separate route into the large sack. Excess gas is, naturally, burped out in order to maintain a proper balance. Too much gas and it runs the risk of floating away.
This unfortunately means they are not capable of sitting or laying down. They sleep standing up, which makes their bedrooms look more like skyscraper-size closets. I can only imagine what their buildings must look like.
