Observation: A bird that evolved fur instead of feathers. It also evolved five tails in place of a plumage display. Due to this choice in evolutionary design, the creature is flightless.
It is a common target for predators due to its high population number. It is weak in combat and relatively easy to kill. However, it has developed a special defense in order to help aid in its escape.
The stripes on its body function in the same way that as the stripes on an Earth zebra in that they are used to confuse predators. When frighten or startled, this creature will begin to shake all five tails in a furious display that is meant to distract the threat. If even glanced at, the display can cause slight disorientation in both depth perception and visual balance. Most predators will end up looking away for a moment in order to readjust their temporarily damaged eye sight, giving enough time for this creature to sprint several yards before performing the same distraction.
Its diet is mostly grain and seed. In the spring, it changes its diet to fruits and berries. It also practices hibernation during the winter, which is very unusual for a bird.
But, then again, I guess this bird is anything but ordinary.
