Waterhog

Diet: Herbivore
Danger Level: 11
Social Ability: 10

Observation: A purple pig that doesn’t need to drink water because it produces it naturally! This strange head is equipped with three mouths. It eats by shoving its head into large bushes and eating the foliage that surrounds it. The central mouth is the only one out of the three that will eat from smaller bushes.

Over the course of the day as it consumes more and more plant life, the bulbs on it back will increase in size. This is where the water it produces is stored. When they reach the size of 36 inches in diameter, they break off and drop to the ground. A new bulb will then start to grow where the old one once was. A single creature can produce approximately 500 filled bulbs of water.

Once on the ground, it’s all up to chance as to what happens. In some cases, it was documented that the bulb will slowly leak the water as the flesh decomposes. When this happen, the surrounding plant life that this creature just ate are renewed with water to produce more leaves. In other cases, other creatures will try and claim the bulb and drink from it or share the water with their individual family groups. This is more common in areas where rain never falls for one environmental factor or another.

The creature lives on a planet that is 95% land, so it is a very valuable creature. Predators will only kill one or two of these creatures over the time of six months if they cannot find any other source of food in the area. Carnivorous scavengers will stalk the dying so that they can claim the last bulbs of water and meat before any other creature does.

This is another creature that is solitary most of its life and will only interact with the other gender for mating purposes. The young only stay with their mothers for a week before they are left to fend for themselves. They are never targets for predators due to their value as a future source of water. In fact, it’s been reported that a few predators will often leave gifts of food for the young if one is found along their game trail!

Only the foolish will try to attack it head on. This creature’s only defense is its three mouths. When a threat is spotted, it will use all three mouths to produce a sonic cry meant to distract or deafen their opponent. The predators that do kill this creature know of the giant blind spot on its back and will often strike there, knocking the water bulbs onto the ground in order to expose the tender back.

I think that if any creature on this planet gains social intelligence, they will automatically make the Waterhog a holy animal.
